This will just be a brief post, but since it’s Suicide Prevention Week and Labor Day I hope all of my readers who are living with, fighting and managing their mental health issues take an opportunity either today or this week to take some time for self care. Here are some different self care techniques from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Adopt an animal to take care of and love. Just petting an animal reduces stress and lowers blood pressure. Also, having a pet that relies on you helps you combat depression, get out of bed and remain active. If you cannot have a pet, visit the humane society to dog walk or to volunteer or offer to pet sit for a friend.
